Description:
Well worth the visit. The Portland Bill Lighthouse was erected
in 1906 and replaced the two previous lighthouses, one which
today provides self catering accommodation as a Bird
Observatory. 153 steps to the top of Portland Bill Lighthouse
makes a challenging guided tour with a former Lighthouse
Keeper. The view of the spectacular Portland coastline is well
worth it. Please note that height restrictions may apply. Two
cafes border the lighthouse and are usually open during the
days in season.
Directions:
Drive through Fortuneswell, Easton Lane and after passing the
Portland Museum (on left) turn left at cross roads into
Wakeham. Follow the Southwell road to Portland Bill road
southwards. The lighthouse has its own car park.
Opening
Times: April-Sept.(Closed Saturdays),1100-1700. Open most
Sundays in the winter.
Description:
This is one of Henry VIII's best coastal fortresses, preserved in
a waterfront location overlooking Portland harbour. The
preservation of Portland Castle has seen the transition from
medieval coastal fortress to the island's top visitor attraction.
Directions:
Turn into Castletown while entering Portland and turn left at
marking.
Opening Times:
April - October daily 1000 - 1800 (1700 in Oct), Nov - Mar Friday
- Sunday 1000 - 1600.

Portland Museum

Description: A small museum which covers the Island's history
of smuggling and shipwrecks, quarrying but also boasts a
comprehensive fossil collection. Don't miss the giant ammonites in
the garden!
Directions: Pass Fortuneswell and Easton heading towards
Church Ope Cove. Museum is to the left with free parking available
in a pocket across the road.
Opening Times: Easter - October Friday-Tuesday 1030-1700.
Closed 1300-1330.
