Portland  is right at the heart of the "World Heritage Site" of the Dorset and East Devon Coast (UNESCO 2001) ranking alongside the Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef as a site of universal value.

The Island is a jewel in the crown of Dorset, connected to the mainland and Weymouth by a single causeway and a strip of pebble beach passing through a trail of nature reserves.

It is a true explorer's Island, waiting to be discovered on land and underwater with the most dramatic coastal landscape and diverse wildlife in the region.

The Island is a massive tilted table of limestone extending some 4.5 miles into the English Channel, only 1.75 miles wide and rising to nearly 500 feet with limestone reaching depths of 70 feet.
