The Isle and Royal Manor of Portland
The Island is a jewel in the crown of Dorset, connected to the mainland and Weymouth by a single causeway and a strip of pebble beach passing through a trail of nature reserves. It is a true explorer's Island, waiting to be discovered on land and underwater with the most dramatic coastal landscape and diverse wildlife in the region. The Island is a massive tilted table of limestone extending some 4.5 miles into the English Channel, only 1.75 miles wide and rising to nearly 500 feet with limestone reaching depths of 70 feet.
