Sailing  and Boating

Portland Harbour, together with Weymouth Bay, is one of the most leading sailing and wind-surfing locations in Britain.

The sheltered and clear water of Portland Harbour offers excellent sailing experiences for novice and experienced sailors alike. Boats are available for hire and there are first class launch and servicing facilities for families with their own dinghies and yachts.

Portland Harbour is also perfect for other premier water sports such as canoeing and rowing. The Sailing Academy is host to RYA sailing events up to Olympic standard. Portland is one of the most popular centres for sports climbing in southern England.

Portland Maritime Centre and Ian Fuller of Old Harbour Divers offer a wide range of RYA and related seamanship courses.

Part time, evening and residential programmes are run on a regular basis throughout the year.  The RYA National powerboat scheme ranges from level 1 to Advanced Powerboat certification, which is the professional level required by the M.S.A. (Marine Safety Agency) to run a boat with 12 passengers up to 20 miles from shore.  Please contact Ian Fuller for full details of the D.O.T./M.S.A Certificate of Competence for commercial use.
